“We Must Transform Our Business Model”: Nestlé’s New China Chief Says He Aims to Be a Strong “Coach” – And Shares His Key “Coaching Priorities”

During the 8th China International Import Expo, Nestlé Greater China's newly appointed Chairman and CEO, Mark Davies, made his first public address outlining his leadership strategy. Amid a decline in organic growth rates in the Chinese market over the first nine months, he stressed that Nestlé must undergo a fundamental shift in its business model: moving away from the past reliance on broad distribution in a "channel-driven" approach, toward a growth model centered on "stimulating consumer demand."

Davies views the allure of the Chinese market in its rapid evolution and abundant opportunities, such as the silver economy, pet care, and health foods. The key to success lies in converting these opportunities into sustainable market share gains. To achieve this, he will focus on driving end-consumer demand, optimizing product positioning and channel synergies, avoiding internal competition, and fully leveraging Nestlé's diverse product portfolio and localized R&D as core strengths. His ambitious vision is to position Nestlé China's innovative practices as a benchmark for learning in other global markets.
