Exclusive: Lee Kum Kee Appoints Su Jilong to Head China’s New Retail Operations

Lee Kum Kee Sauce Group has named Su Jilong as Head of its China New Retail Operations Center, succeeding Zhang Yaping, who will depart in August. Su retains his current roles as Vice President of Lee Kum Kee China and Head of both the Professional Foodservice Operations Center and the Channel & Route-to-Market Management Center.

A 20-year retail veteran, Su brings deep omnichannel expertise. His career spans Amazon China, Alibaba—where he led Retail Tong, user operations, and Alibaba Cloud’s new retail division—and community group-buying platform Shihuituan as founding partner and VP. At Meituan, he drove profitability in the Flash Purchase supermarket KA segment by optimizing subsidy efficiency. Known for his pragmatic, frontline-focused style, Su advocates sustainable growth balancing merchant margins and platform health.

The appointment consolidates oversight of two strategic pillars: the Professional Foodservice Center (targeting large-chain restaurants) and the New Retail Center (covering national key accounts and all e-commerce channels, including instant retail). Foodservice remains the core sales driver, accounting for 58% of China’s condiment volume in 2025, while new retail is the fastest-growing segment. Online channels now hold a 28% market share, with instant retail growing over 40% annually. Lee Kum Kee has steadily gained online share, ranking second in mainstream e-commerce condiment sales from 2023–2025, with continued growth across all digital channels in early 2026.

Industry observers note centralized management clarifies accountability, optimizes resource allocation, and mitigates channel price conflicts. Going forward, the foodservice unit will focus on key account development and tailored seasoning solutions, while new retail will pursue full-category, full-channel strategies to shift from pure sales growth to value creation.
